  • Extinction Rebellion activists put up posters at the office of Environment Secretary and the Member of Parliament for Camborne in Cornwall, George Eustice MP, to protest against his environmental record on 25th June 2020 in St Ives, United Kingdom. On the same day the Climate Change Committee will deliver it’s progress report to the Government, XR believe that the government is failing in its commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050, a target they see as already woefully inadequate. They also believe that it will say they are failing in their responsibilities to keep people safe. They are demanding our MPs force the government to take immediate preventative action to avoid climate collapse by implementing a covid recovery plan that achieves net zero carbon emissions by 2025.

  • The imagery of the great outdoors against the urban environment seen through a shop window in central London. In the foreground is a large image of snow-covered mountain peaks in the Alps or another range of geological tops formed over millennia - bare branches below the tree line also making their presence. Above them in an incongruous landscape of nature versus nature are buildings along Bond Street, a fashionable fashion and art area. We see the edifices of a man-made society and architecture and the rawness and beauty of the natural world together in one framed window. Man's achievements within the urban city seen in context with the forces of a natural, uncontrollable environment that we as humans are powerless to harness.

Locals have fought the open cast coal mine for thirty years and three times the local council rejected planning permissions but central government has overruled that decision and the company Banks was granted the license and rights to extract coal in early 2018. Locals have teamed up with climate campaigners and together they try to prevent the mining from going ahead. The mining will have huge implications on the local environment and further coal extraction runs agains the Paris climate agreement. A rare species of crested newt is said to live on the land planned for mining and protectors are trying to stop the mine to save the newt.
