To prevent over crowding and a breach of social distance rules in the street, barriers are put in place and people are kept from entering the street from the north end. The UK Government introduced a 4 week lockdown from November 5th - December 2nd to combat the coronavirus outbreak. It is the third day of the national lockdown and restrictions mean that people are only allowed to meet outside, in pairs and only if keeping social distance. Only if they already live together or have formed a social bubble can they interact freely.

  • With new local coronavirus lockdown measures now in place and Birmingham currently set at 'Tier 2' or 'high', people wearing face masks pass crowd barriers meant to control the flow of people to the now cancelled German christmas market in the city centre on 14th October 2020 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This is the first day of the new three tier system in the UK which has levels: 'medium', which includes the rule of six, 'high', which will cover most areas under current restrictions; and 'very high' for those areas with particularly high case numbers. Meanwhile there have been calls by politicians for a 'circuit breaker' complete lockdown to be announced to help the growing spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The Sunday Times has reported that the Queen will make Windsor Castle her main home for the rest of the year following her summer break at Balmoral rather than returning to Buckingham Palace because her household arrangements at Windsor Castle are believed to offer the greatest protection from COVID-19.
