New high rise apartment block buildings at Canning Town seen from the Lower Lea Crossing road on 17th October 2022 in London, United Kingdom. London Docklands is the riverfront and former docks area located in inner east and southeast London, in the boroughs of Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Lewisham, Newham, and Greenwich. The docks were formerly part of the Port of London. By the 1980s, after the docks closed, the area became derelict and poverty was rife. The Docklands regeneration began later that decade, predominantly being redeveloped for commercial and residential use.
