The statue to Joao Goncalves Zarco next to the Bank of Portugal during renovation work, on Largo da Restauracao, on 21st April 2024, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. João Gonçalves Zarco was a Portuguese explorer who established settlements and recognition of the Madeira Islands, and was appointed first captain of Funchal by Henry the Navigator.
